Even The Blues, was produced by guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and
"partner-in-crime" as singer/songwriter Tad Overbaugh puts it, Steve Scott.
The new record again features the Motel Stars (2006)
lineup of Matt Arnold on bass and Perry James on drums.
"Even The Blues is about trying to enjoy the good moments as they pass, amidst the
struggles that are always there. A lot of the album is about some form of escapism and using it to get back
to a good place", says Overbaugh.

Singer-songwriter-guitarist Tad Overbaugh is the heart & soul of The Kickbacks. His jangly, upbeat prescription
for songcrafting makes The Kickbacks one of the coolest bands performing in Boston today. Joined by his ever-dependable
bandmates Steve Scott on guitar, keys & vocals, Matt Arnold on bass and Perry James on drums, The Kickbacks deliver a
satisfying collection of powerpop rockers equally capable of getting you on the dance floor or on cloud 9. Our favorite
songs resonating through the office walls of Metronome include the album's opener "Figure You Out," the Americana jaunt
of "Even The Blues," the reflective "Bulletproof," and the Asbury Park swagger of "Isolation Blue". If record execs are
looking for great songwriting and a band capable of delivering them, The Kickbacks should be in your sites. Good stuff!

This long-serving Boston band seem to be single-handedly filling the void left behind when bands like the Long Ryders, The Replacements
and Uncle Tupelo ruled the late-Eighties/early-Nineties pre-grunge, roots-rock roost. Following a long line of traditional, melodic
Beantown rockers like the (later) Neats and the Del Fuegos, Tad Overbaugh and co. seek refuge in telling tales about the beautiful
losers on life’s lost highway and set the stories to a perfect Stones-y/Placemats-y backbeat. And they seem to be doing it all
themselves as this self-released CD indicates. Until Mr. Westerberg get’s his act together, we have this to remind us. So, check ‘em out!

Dependability is an overlooked concept in music when we're all looking for the newest bright, shiny object.
Even The Blues is the fifth disc from The Kickbacks, and it's another high-quality offering that might be their
best yet. Despite hailing from Boston, Tad Overbaugh & Co. have the midwestern rock sound down, kind of a golden
mean between Paul Westerberg and Tom Petty. It's not always easy to be rocking and tuneful, but The Kickbacks most
certainly are. The one-two punch of "Figure You Out" and "Going Out to Get Home" tell you all need to know about
the band, but they do throw in some twists. "Motel Stars" (the title of their previous disc) has some Stones-y
swagger to it, "Getaway Car" is a gentle ballad in the vein of "Skyway", and "Isolation Blue" has a jangle to it.
Kick back with the Kickbacks, you won't regret it.

Yeah! The Kickbacks have delivered! Like their last album, fans who dig the sounds of `87-/90-era Replacements you will definitely *not* want to miss out on checking out The Kickbacks
on “Even The Blues”. I would add there are some Tommy Keene ghosts floating around inside many of
these songs, as well. All the songs here splendifically drift from gentle roots-pop jangle and open
chorded sounds to sweeping, accessible and good-natured melodies always evoking the Westerberg
influence in a fresh way. What`s not enjoy here for fans of this style of pop? Nothing!.
Yes, indeed – EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Tad Overbaugh and Steve Scott, bring quality musicianship to this highly polished rock and roll album. "Figure You Out" has a Westerberg-like
growl and steady guitar rhythm. The other songs have a Stonesy feel with a modern twist. The special holiday EP version of
"Even The Blues" is a free download but, I would encourage you to get the whole album.

Boston's Kickbacks are a sentimental favorite. For ten years they've been serving up some mighty fine Americana.
Singer-songwriter Tad Overbaugh has a knack for catchy melodies made all the more satisfying by the band's harmonies.
"Motel Stars", if you can follow the logic, the unreleased title track from the band's previous album, has finally
arrives on their latest release. Nonetheless, the song is a stand-out filled with the bands trademark foot-tapping
melodies punctuated with a healthy dose of horns.

Our guess is that this album will probably be overlooked by many folks and that is a shame...because Even the Blues is a
very nice solid collection of tunes. The guys in Boston, Massachusetts-based The Kickbacks play credible, hummable mid-tempo
guitar pop that sounds instantly familiar. Instead of relying on gimmicks and other such crap, this album is all about songs.
The guys in this band have been around for awhile. They released their debut album (Longitude) in 1998 and have been making
music ever since. There are no surprises here...just good hummable guitar pop tunes that are bound to sound great blaring
from the car stereo. Good cruising music for sure. Ten nifty hummable cuts delivered straight from the hip. Our favorites
include "Figure You Out," "Going Out To Get Home," "Getaway Car," and "No Guarantees." (Rating: 4++++)

- November 2008
The Kickbacks offer the kind of lax, carefree, twinkly-yet-hefty guitar pop that made "college rock"
seem like such a spot-on reduction for a few fond years. It doesn't hurt that singer Tad Overbaugh
adds a heaping tablespoon of Matthew Sweetener to each track on their latest offering, Even the Blues.

- April 2009
Mix Tom Petty, Jeff Buckley and Todd Snider together and you'd have a band very similar to the Kickbands.
Just well played straight ahead rock with an alt-country flavor.
